Heifer-Ukraine – is a non-government, nonprofit charitable organization that works with rural communities to improve the welfare of rural families while caring for the environment by providing pour families with animals, plants, knowledge, skills and resources to help poor families become self-reliant.

Heifer International began its work in Ukraine in 1994 with the first pilot project “Small Farm Development in Drohobych District” designed for western Ukraine by the Heifer International Representative Office in Poland. 13 March 2000 – is a date when International Charitable Foundation “Heifer Project International” was officially registered in Ukraine. Today we have two offices operating in Ukraine located in Kyiv and Lviv.

Since 1994 we launched 68 projects all over Ukraine, supported over 7000 rural families united in agricultural service cooperatives or NGOs. Families received high productive animals, elite seeds of plants, agricultural equipment, technical and advisory support.

The important components of each project are education on effective farming, entrepreneurship skills, ensuring passing on the gift procedure (every one who receives support from Hiefer-Ukraine is obliged to pass the first female offspring of a particular age to the other family); improvement of the breed and productiveness of the cattle. In the framework of the projects we organize or equip veterinary points, artificial insemination centers and milk collection centers. We also help communities with improvement of pastures and provision of fodders. According to the developed business-plans Heifer-Ukraine provides project-holders with equipment to let them provide services on production, storage and processing of the agricultural goods. Heifer-Ukraine also provides assistance to rural families who have suffered from disasters, either man-made or natural; it implements agro ecological projects that are aimed at saving disappearing breeds of horses, cattle and sheep that are on the verge of extinction. We develop initiatives to support rural youth and to ensure equal rights and opportunities for men and women in Ukraine.

Our organization is a part of Heifer International network that was founded in 1944 in the USA and implements projects in more than 125 countries in the world.
